Hey guys! As this week marks the last few days of my 2014 Summer holiday, it draws an end to the short-lived warm weather. Although I haven’t been abroad in the last few months, I have still ventured out wearing what could be considered seasonal wear! (this is weird for England in case you aren’t aware of our climate confused nation) My favorite trends of the S/S 2014 range from interesting colors to staple prints, funky co-ordinates and tasseled kimonos, leaving it safe to say that this past season has demonstrated many of my fashion favorites – even though I haven’t had a chance to wear them in the foreign heat. So, I thought I’d share with you some of my overall favorite summer outfits; pieces I’ve purchased and worn to death, matched with those I’ve lusted over – both in shops and online.
The first outfit illustrates two of my favorite bargain purchases in the summer sales. I picked up the white lace kimono in the New Look store in Chippenham for only £10, reduced from £20. I have been lusting over kimonos all season and promised myself that I would treat myself to one in the sales and I am so glad I waited because I can see this being worn a lot when I visit Barcelona in October – and for half the price? My Visa card isn’t complaining – for once! I’ve paired this kimono with my new best friend – the Boohoo.com Emilia boyfriend jean. After cutting my last pair of boyfriend jeans up (in a bid to find the perfect denim short) I have been looking for a replacement pair and at £15 I couldn’t resist – they combine everything I love in a jean; boyfriend fit, high waist and distressed design into one… I will probably do an outfit post on these separately as they are yet to be delivered, but look at them. They are irresistible!
The shorts/bodysuit combination was one favored heavily at the festivals this year. By teaming a basic black halter neck bodysuit with a cute pair of vintage paisley shorts, one is more than sorted for a day under the sun, and this is something you can just throw on in a matter of seconds – perfect for when you’re getting bored with the luxury portalooes you find at such events. These shorts are similar to the ones featured in my Polyvore post but equally as gorgeous, and the culotte fit means you won’t be sweating under heavy denim or other tight materials.
Wearing white jeans is definitely one of the bittersweet highlights of Summer. On one hand, you never fail to look cute – pairing with a tiny crop or oversized knit, but on the other? Constant paranoia that you’re going to ruin your favorite warm summer piece. The third outfit features another bargain – the sold out, pinstriped white high waisted jegging from River Island, a staple which cost me a mere £8 a few weeks ago. I picked these up by chance an have worn them out a lot since, they are perfect for shopping or dressing up to attend summer BBQs and late night parties. The white on white trend was brought back again this year, and how else better to do it than with a comfy pair of white trousers teamed with a white jumper and clutch bag. White on white never fails to look glamorous, whilst showing off a summer glow! (which unfortunately you can’t pick up in the summer sales)
I however did visit Cornwall in my six weeks off, where I reluctantly purchased a pair of Thai style printed trousers. Unlike the ones in the Polyvore post, these are elasticated at the bottom, making them style-able with a cute pair of sandals. These pants are adorable and go with almost anything. St Paul’s Carnival saw me wearing a black lace detailed vest tucked, whereas a camp-out I went to one weekend saw a black crop and trainer combination. I never fail to receive compliments when I wear these trousers out an although they’re like marmite – you love them or hate them – they are just so summery and light that they will definitely make an appearance in summers to come.
